Project Implementation Review
Purpose
Post project reviews providing an assessment of project delivery are an invaluable source of lessons learned and identification of process improvement initiatives that can enhance future projects. A PIR is used to answer the question: Did we achieve what we set out to do, in business terms and if not, what should be done?
In order to learn from experience we have to want to – PIR’s are a great way for project participants to reflect on what went well, what could of gone better and how we can change the way we do things next time.
Composition
Project Implementation Reviews are conducted through a combination of:
- A survey of project participants and stakeholders
- A workshop session with key stakeholders
The combined results of the survey and workshop are distilled into a report containing a brief description of the findings, a lessons learnt section identifying the lesson and implications for future project delivery, and where required, recommendations on project management capability development options to improve delivery effectiveness.
Derivation
Specific areas of focus for a PIR may be provided by the client. PIR survey is a standard product, as is the workshop outline. The report uses a standard template.
Format & Presentation
Results of a project implementation review are presented in a brief report and presentation.
